Second Monday in March

A co-worker asked what I was doing for St. Patrick's Day. I replied, it is Thursday. I'll be doing what I do most every Thursday. No big whoop. I just hope the weather stays more like spring rather than deciding to deliver a winter blast.

Bigger than St. Patrick's Day (in my opinion) for the up-coming week, is our state's primary.  Election day is Tuesday and if last Friday is any indication, it shall be a bumpy ride. The weather may keep most folks off the street. Hopefully, most folks voted early.

The best aspect of this week (and the advent of Daylight Saving Time) is that Spring is officially around the corner; sunshine, blue skies, fields of blooms. May the Sun shine warm upon all our faces.

  1. St. Patrick's day is a non-holiday in my house, except for Martha who works in an elementary school and therefore, in the spirit of the day, wears green.

I am sorry for the trouble in your city. It is so sad how polarized we have become and how it is playing out. I hope the insanity passes quickly but I fear it will get worse before it gets better.

I live in a state where there is no early voting. Unless you vote with an absentee ballot (which you have to apply for weeks earlier) we get one shot at it. But I am interested in how it works - I have always heard about how expensive it is to run an election, even for one day - are polling places staffed for days? Plus our polling places are in public buildings - fire houses, churches, libraries, etc. I would think these places would complain about an extended disruption. I am curious how states with early voting do it for an extended time.

We are fitfully but happily lurching toward Spring. Raising a glass to welcome it. ::click::

    1. I fear you are correct: worse before better. Such a sad state of affairs.

The early voting locations are limited in number, staffing, and hours. Most, I think are in municipal buildings. For the primary, the opened later and I think, fewer locations. I haven't been able to take advantage this cycle. So, I'll be out, probably in a line, at very nearly the crack of dawn in the morning.

      Cheers to Spring.

  2. The attractions of celebrating National Irish American Day paled decades ago. So, yes, pretty much ignoring it around here, too. We'll be celebrating (maybe) the first non-rainy day of March instead. Fingers crossed.

This whole ridiculous and dangerous election cycled is terrible. Frightening and embarrassing. I'm sorry things got so out of hand in Chicago... it's ugly. Here in Oregon, we vote by mail for every election. There's a lot less focused angst that way (and savings for the state as well).

I'll join you both in a toast to Spring!

    1. Crossing my fingers on for you guys. Here's to no rain. We are supposed to have a monster of a storm tomorrow. The news folks are advising folks to get out early. We shall see.

It is ugly and all that you said. The saddest part of all is the candidate who is taking some twisted pleasure in provoking, signing off on the vitriol. Makes me ill.

      Cheers. Skoal. to Spring!!

  4. While I'm happy about the approach of Spring, Daylight Savings Time is kicking my butt this year. Hope you have a wonderful, warm, week!

    1. I was a bit thrown by the darkness this morning (walking the pooch) but pleased to have daylight for the commute home in the evening. Even as a storm rolls in.

Today likely was the warmest we'll see this week. But, the forecasters have been wrong before. ;-)

  5. I'm with you. On Thursday, I will be Thursdaying. Though I will try to remember to wear something green. I think I still have trauma from when I was a kid and people would pinch you at school if you weren't wearing green.

    1. I was like that (wearing of the green) for awhile but not anymore. Though, I do have green in the hoodie I'm sure I'll be wearing if it is chilly.

Just another day for St. Patrick's Day here too, although as green is my favorite color, I'm always happy for an excuse to wear it!

  8. Thursdays for me in the summer (and I'm hanging on to that for as long as I can, I'm sorry) mean pasta and chardonnay nights when my husband is at golf (he doesn't like either of them). St Patrick's Day isn't a huge deal here, though I have friends who met on 17 March, and so I always know when their anniversary is.
