Summer Daze

"Boundless"
by Boyan Marinov

I like summer. Most days. I am, however getting tired of nearly bare and fully bare feet. FYI. Carry on.  Such was a FB status update a few days ago. A few likes and one comment: yours of others? To which I replied:

The feet of others

I was on a bus. Tired, unable to distract (or engage) myself otherwise, I looked down and saw all manner of shoe wear displaying all manner of feet. It isn't that I hate feet. I don't. Feet are incredibly useful. I just do not like feet. I mean, they are generally unattractive and I haven't seen one (or a pair) made less so with a sandal or flip-flop. Which, by the way, should be outlawed.

In other news, a co-worker decided it'd be a grand idea if we had a potluck. We have had them before at the office, so not unprecedented. She, relatively new to the office presented it as a "Kum-Bah-Yah" team building opp . . . yada x 3. It's cool. While I do not get overly excited of the idea of diving into the dishes of relative strangers, I am generally game. There are typically enough participants who sign up with chips and (store bought) salsa and national chain chicken shack type offerings to balance things out.

My pasta, whole kernel corn, black and pinto bean, tomato, bell pepper (yellow and orange) red pepper flakes, cumin, chili powder, onion powder, Italian dressing (I choose zesty) and salt to taste salad was a quick, easy, tasty, portable way to go. It has gone before and so, go it went. Again.

Thursday, the day before Potluck day, potluck planner / hostess talked about her designs to go into business selling her famous jerk chicken tacos. It struck me that the potluck (her contribution: jerk chicken tacos) was, in addition to the KUM BAH YAH, a way to present her product toward creating a buzz, and perhaps. finding backers for her venture.

I tried one and, well, let's just say, I'm glad there was my salad, chicken from a national chain, chips and salsa . .

Plus, she wore sandals or flip-flops (which, by the way, should be outlawed) ever single day last week.

#MicroBlog Monday     Link to the salad basic salad recipe added. I tweak it to my taste by using different tomatos and / or more chili powder.

  1. Flip flops to work? I can't... um... I know you don't live in Hawai'i so... how is that appropriate?
For the record, I'm not a fan of feet (except, of course, for doing their actual job) and I wholeheartedly agree with you. I hate it when my partner puts her feet on me. Gross.
And, come on people, put some lotion on those tired dogs!

    1. Our office is casual, but still . . even at least one of the guys sports flip flops from time to time. It bugs me to pieces.

And yes, IF you must show them, clean, scrape, and moisturize.

I like feet. :) I especially like my own feet, which i think are lovely, weird as that sounds. i like that although the rest of my body is doing things I am so unhappy with, my feet stay the same, slogging away. I have been known to paint my toes at times. And I like when a partner puts her feet up on me and I hear that I give very good foot massages. ;)

That said, I can't imagine wearing flip flops to work.

That art is beautiful. Also, I want specifics on that salad, it sounds de-lish!

    1. I am happy for you and your feet. :-)

Yes. Flip flops to work is so routine Office dress codes are becoming more and more releaxed. Again, bugs me to pieces. I don't work in corporate, but I don't think business casual is too much to ask.

That is a nice piece, isn't it. It is one of the many on display for our town's Sculpture Walk.

I'll get the specs to ya. :-)

  3. Sorry - I am one of those people who would rather be barefoot year-round, and I wear my sandals outside of the house as long as the New England weather permits. That being said, I can't imagine wearing them in a professional environment. :D

    1. No need to apologize. I don't have to be barefoot with you--or see your bare feet year-round, so all is well. To each their own. Really, I don't have cause to complain, just kinda have had my fill.

I wish more folks thought that way.

  4. Flip flops to school? Yes, I am a college student and even though I am 3 times older than most there, one of these days I might even go to school in PJ's... but work? No, no, no!

    1. No... not PJs?? What really (really) bugs me about folks in flip-flops is that they don't keep the flip flops ON their feet. They always seem to be dangling off a toe or resting under a desk while the bare feel rub the carpet. Ewww

  5. I love the sculpture.

I love being barefoot. but never wear flip flops because I can't stand the strap thing between my toes.

But if ever we meet I shall cover my feet and bring chicken from a national chain : )

    1. I am quite taken with it as well. I was never allowed to walk around barefoot as a child and guess it just . . stuck.

      I appreciate the consideration. :-)

  6. I do partake in the flip flop wearing from time to time, but lately, I've been really squeamish about them and opting for regular shoes. I don't know what it is.

    1. That is odd. But . . . yay, one less flip flop wearer. :-)

  7. I have to admit I giggled a little bit when I started reading your post. I recently had to wear socks and shoes for the first time in three months and my poor feet were begging for their freedom by noon. Flip flops in the office, though, that's a no-no.

    Btw, your salad sounds amazing!

    1. I am almost never without socks and shoes. Love my socks.

That salad is amazing. It isn't mine in the sense I wasn't the originator of the particular combo. Thank you.

  8. Flip flops - known as jandals in New Zealand - are almost a national icon! Though I agree they're inappropriate in the office.

    1. I like the name jandals better. I don't think the name alone would win me over, but it is a start. ;-)

  9. Maybe you can take a cue and shop around your recipe. Who knows, the pasta-salad might become famous.

    1. In some parts, in some variation it is famous, that's how I found it. My daughter is the culinarian. I shall continue to help and support her. The less I'm in the kitchen the better, I think. ;-)

  10. The things we learn about each other via our blogs! I have worn flip flops quite regularly...everywhere...last year I got a pair of Birks that I have worn almost exclusively (since Sept) and, gasp, I walk around the office with bare feet all the time. I do think about it from time to time, as in does anyone get skeeved out about it, and if someone were to ever indicate their displeasure, I would keep my birks on. I often feel I am on the edge of too casual for office casual, but certainly not the worst to take advantage among our crew. Will be sure my pedi is up to snuff when we next visit!

    1. When. We. Visit. Next! Yay!! ♥

There is one woman who pads around not quite barefoot, she's wears socks. That is just weird to me. But, hey...

I like a friendly work environment. So while I am not 100% on board with flip-flops, bare (or socked feet) house slippers in the winter, or the super short shorts (or Cubs hats) in the summer, I keep all that inside--well, except here on this page. ;-)

Friends. I love. Feet and all. Oh, okay, maybe not the feet. ♥
