#The biggest challenge in turning over this new leaf toward healthier eating, has been the impulse to lean into easy (lazy) behaviors. It is much too convenient to pick up a bag of chips, a couple of cookies, a candy bar, the dreaded quick service or something out of a box. Planning and prepping: impulse busters
#Several of my co-workers snack on sunflower seeds (with the shells). None, I believe, eat the shells. They all seem to build mounds of sucked on shells, leaving them on their desks (resting on a dish or paaper towels) until the mound is dumped in the trash. Some, must take sunflower seeds into the bathroom. I never expected to see a sucked on shell in the bathroom, not in the trash.
#It apears that unnatural hair colors are trending. Pinks. Blues. Magentas. Folks dyeing their hair from the box of 64 crayons, buying pieces, weaves, and wigs, that widen the spectrum even further. A couple of fellow commuters "had words" over expression of this trend. He said she had Now and Later hair. She wasn't as upset over the specific critque as she was over his nastiness in expressing his opinion.
#My mom's birthday is Thursday. I'm trying really hard to lift up the cheer-filled, happier moments. Feeling fairly confident that the effort was going to prove exhausting, I've already requested Friday off. Now, to just get through the 4 days . . .
#We had two (count them, two) days with temps touching 70 and the sun being our friend. Yay!
*don't mind the date on the photo--different camera, didn't reset--photo taken Sunday morning.
#MicroBlogMonday click the link for more. :-)
Happy BDay to your mom. Good luck with everything.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it is easier to pick up something prepackaged than take the time to do healthy. Though as far as prepackaged, I like the pepper jack stick cheeses and apple/peanut butter individual packs. Your picture looks yummy:)
Thank you. I like Pepper Jack cheese sticks too. A really special treat. Peanut butter is off the table, sadly.

DeleteBananas and pineapple = yummy! Absolutely agree that the prepping and planning are essential. That's really where I fall down.
ReplyDeleteI'll be thinking about you on Thursday, D. Yes, that's a tough day, but I hope you'll spend it thinking of all the good stuff about your mom and not focusing on the loss. I say that, and mean it, but I know how hard that is. I know that come July I'll be in the same boat. Still, I'll be sending you love on Thursday...
PS: sunflower seeds at the office = ugh.
I didn't think to throw the blueberries in the photo. That has been the trio the last few days. Once in a while I put a bit of spinach in.
DeleteThanks. Work is busy so that helps (some). I appreciate your lovely, supportive words.
And yeah: ugh on th seeds.

DeleteEw to sunflower seed husks lying about, all sucked on... It's a good snack, but what on earth were they doing in the bathroom? Your fruit bags look amazing. I have been doing containers of berries because they're so yummy right now. It keeps me out of my candy drawer at school. I love the bright colors in the hair. One of my students has mermaid hair -- it's dark blue up top and then aqua as it goes to her full length. Strangely gorgeous. I'll be thinking of you on Thursday as you celebrate your mom without your mom. I'm glad you took care of yourself and took Friday off. And hooray for 70s! I feel like Spring is really real now.
ReplyDeleteYep, EW. I'm sorry to say I can't erase the sight from my mind. Probably because it keeps happening.
DeleteI usually cut up the big fruits (pineapples, melons) but have been putting them in one bowl. Then lightening struck and duh...sort it out in serving sizes.
I kind of like the suprise of it. I really like the dye jobs where colors soft and woven in the natural hair.
Thank you for your kind words and support. ♥
The fruit bags look like a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI actually died my hair one of those unnatural colours. I had to get it bleached first (which was an excellent job) and then I applied a temporary colour. It was interesting- I did get a few comments! What is interesting is that it is almost gone now, except for a few strands where it has clung on - so there are the odd glimpses of purple highlights! And purple- a tiny, subtle reference the the Purple One.
It is turning out to be a grand idea.
DeleteA co-worker has some greens and blues ribboned in her natural color. I asked her about the process. Quite a process.
Love the idea of a wee bit of purple. :-)
Seeing all the vibrant colors other species in nature get to have, I think it is sad that we humans only seem to come in earth tones. I enjoy when people add a little color to our palette.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to do some food prep on Sundays, but my kids seem to snag it all before I get a chance to eat it. Soon I will have my house back though so I will have no excuse.
A friend just had a teacup tattoo done to feel closer to her mom. I have a few plants from my mom's garden. Perhaps there is some warm remembrance you can focus on to celebrate her. Still, they leave such a hole in our hearts. {{{hugs}}}
It is fun and kicky. The gray is plenty for me (for now). :-)
DeleteMy daughter only wants the fruit--when I'm cutting it. Afterwards, she doesn't touch it. Why? I haven't quite figured out--but it's a win.
So weird. I mentioned to the daughter about getting a tattoo (not thinking about my mom) and she suggested, "mother / daughter" tats. She has 2. I have 0. I'm thinking of visiting one of her favorite places in the city, to reflect on the fun she / we had.
Yes, indeed. Thank you.
All the yellow fruit in the picture makes me very happy. I keep scrolling up the page to look at it. I will be sending good thoughts your way on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteIt is a happy scene. The pineapple was / is super sweet.
DeleteThank you much.
Good idea, getting Friday off. You'll be in my thoughts this week.
ReplyDeleteIt is shaping up that way for sure. I heard there is a potluck on Friday. #nothankyou.
DeleteTHANK YOU for the thoughts. :-)
DeleteHappy birthday to your mum! It's so true. Time constraints is the biggest downfall to healthy eating. It takes time to make the salad. It takes no time to open the box of crackers.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYes, by mid-week I remember why I hadn't prepared dinner every night. Pre-planning, and prep (over the weekends) is becoming a saving grace. So far.
Also, keeping it simple. :-)
I'm sure you're already aware, but a reminder in case... If you eat something small every couple of hours, your blood sugar won't fluctuate as much during the day and you won't find yourself as tempted to reach for sugar (candy) or salt (chips) nearly as much as if you're starving.
ReplyDeleteI am aware. The challenge is having suitable options readily available. ;-)
DeleteThank you

ReplyDeleteAaah, the snacking dilemma. I try not to snack simply by not having anything snackable available. But I don't think that helps me, because by dinner time I'm starving.
ReplyDeletebest of luck with the prep. i suck at it, sigh. time and effort is required, while nothing is required to eat a pack of oreos. and they taste so GOOD. :P
