Be Still My Heart

Aretha Franklin has been as much a part of my growing up as collard greens and cornbread. Carol King's Tapestry was one of the first albums I bought with my own money. This moment was one of the greatest TV moments in my recent memory and I shall cherish it for years to come.

Natural. Women. Swoon.

  3. That voice. When she walked onto stage in the video, chills went down both arms.

Tapestry was such a big deal to me that I posed for a formal picture holding it. And it was on repeat play a lot.

The very first record I ever bought was, I think, The Jackson Five.

    1. I never posed for a pic, but I can relate.

A J5 was right there in the mix as far as my early music (45s) purchases.

My cousin and I used to stack our 45s on the record player and dance. All the J5 songs had very specific dances that were done to them in D.C. (where she was from) and she would teach me them. I can still see the two of us singing and dancing along. :)

    1. You're welcome. Music has always been important to me--though it has been missing the last couple of years--until recently.

  6. New to your blog, loving the Aretha video! Some singers lose their voice as they age. Nice to know that isn't true for her.

  7. I sent this clip to a friend and she said she cried - so you're not the only person who is moved by these incredibly talented women!
