Beginning the 'Ber Months

Last week, holiday aside, was a long, exhausting week. Due in part, to the resurrection of memories brought on by the anniversary of my father's death (and his birthday). Last week also marked the 58th birthday of my other brother to whom I haven't spoken with in over a year.

The first days of September are fraught tangled emotions and memories crashing upon themselves wreaking haoc on the status quo of day-to-day.

My younger brother called last week with chit-chat, news of a family death, and a request permission to pass on my email address to a cousin on our father's side who is looking to get in touch. I said sure, eventhough we'd been down this road before.

The first few days are now behind me stabilized by celebatory notes; happiest of happy birthday wishes extened to an aunt and two dear friends.

Welcome to the beginning of the 'Ber months.

  4. September can be a rough month for me as well although I am continually trying to stay focused on my blessings rather than difficult memories. It's a mixed bag of results.

I read the "ber" months as being the "brrr" months which is fitting especially since our nighttime temps have dropped dramatically.

Are you really going to post that picture and not explain it?

    1. I think that why I've been so exhausted--the continual uphill climb to stay focused on the blessings.

"Brrr" months is apt. Rumor has it we're in for a chill spell soon.

LOL I meant to pull it down for the post originally had a different title and a slightly different narrative.

I was 4 or 5. We were taken to the zoo. Each of us were plopped atop this (famous-at the time) stuffed panda for the photo op. Mine was the only one of the three that survived our many moves. My younger brother reminded me of the day (and the photo/s) when we spoke last week.

As I recall that was quite a fun day.

  5. I'm sorry September is so fraught. I hope the rest of the 'Ber months are good to you... I saw that label for the first time on facebook and it made me happy. The 'Ber months are my favorites.

    1. Thank you. Minus the potential for extreme weather the 'Ber months do hold certain charms.

  6. August is my month of tough remembrances, though I'm not looking forward to my mother's birthday in a few weeks, the first since she died. Sometimes, we just have to let the dates ride over us, until we can pick ourselves up and move on. I wish that for you.

  7. I lost my father and two brothers during the 'Ber months. Plus, they signal the coming of the cold, dark 'Ary months. Luckily they also include Thanksgiving and Christmas. That always helps. Damn, you sure were a cute little girl.
