Mish Mash

Yes, I'm still growing my hair out.  I don't know how much longer I'll be able to tolerate it as it is thick and in the present state, unmanageable.  I may blow it out after the next wash toward figuring out some other "style" without too much hassle until . . .

The ultimate goal is to be able to braid it (crown style) without it unraveling after a few hours.

Yes, I'm still doing a daily sketchbook practice.  These are day 7 for two different disciplines and prompts, Pencilvember 2019 "Prince" and from the 2018 Inktober prompt list, "Exhausted".

I haven't drawn with pencils--with the intent of showing the pencil lines--in quite a while.  It is taking some getting used to.  I either have very poor quality color pencils or I just don't know what I'm doing (or some combination) as I'm not happy with any of the sketches featuring color pencils.  Put, I'll keep plugging away at it.

I am up to day 11.  Haven't figured out what I'm going to sketch for the two prompts; Galaxy for pencilvember and Cruel for the 2018 Inktober but I'm sure something will come to me.

  1. That prince looks malevolent! And, the Exhaustion picture looks how many of us feel at the end of a hard day... just crawling to our beds!

Your hair looks great! You don't have as much gray/silver/white as I do, but I love how it highlights your curls. But, hair shouldn't rule our lives, right? It's got to be easy or it's got to go! (E's #1 rule of hair). Lol.
Thank you for sharing your art with us, D!

    1. Many who contributed to the "prince" prompt offered a portrait of Prince, the entertainer. I think my prince's malevolent look is in response to my inability to achieve a likeness of Prince. Maybe.

Thank you. I think hair should be easy too. And Dagnabbit, this longer 'do is gonna be easy. Eventually. :-)

  2. My anticipation is growing (no pun intended) to see how you do the crown braid.

The exhausted sketch reminds me so much of Van Gogh's "bedroom in Arles" which I actually just got to see in person. The painting, not the bedroom : )

  3. I'm looking forward to that too!

I used that painting as the motivation for the sketch. Oddly enough, it was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the prompt.

  4. Oh, the Exhausted drawing made me feel that bone-tired I-can't-even-make-it-to-the-bed feeling. Your prince has great eyebrows! So expressive. And I love your hair, can't wait to see the crown braid! I bet it will be stunning.

    1. Prince's eyebrows didn't want to be overshadowed by the crown. :-)

Stunning, wow. Thank you. I'm shooting for neat.
